When or Why Would You ever Need to Drop Weapon?
Sort of following on from the 'naive' thread that was closed too quick for me to ask this question there:
I was also asked to do this in game recently; obviosuly I didn't because I couldn't think of why it would be needed other than to steal my item.
So why would anyone do it? Is there some part of the game I've missed where it is a good idea? Or required for a team build, or specific farming method, or something else more unlikely?
I can't for the life of me think of a reason.
Confused.

There're no reasons for doing so, well not a good one anyway.

I do it if I want to give it to a friend in an explorable area.. quicker than opening the trade window.
Apart from that, no good reason.

- to give it to a friend
- to discard of it to make room in your inventory
- to show off how pro your gear is and what a daredevil you are (daredevil is replaceable with the word "idiot" or "stupidhead" or "naive buffoon")

Working up enough DP to be unable to activate Aggressive Refrain so being forced to ask one of the people in your party to lend you a staff to get it up and running.
(That's the PG-13 version of a real game event that included a trigger happy warrior working up too much DP thus being unable to cast Mending on himself. )

Because some people are sadly naeive retards who like to show off, but when said item is snatched they throw a emo hissy fit about how unfair it is, If people still fall for idiot scammers asking them to drop the high value weapon they have taken ages to get then imo they deserve to lose it,you cant even use the excuse that they may be new to the game as the only weapons worth scamming would be high value, therefore belonging to long term players .

Even then, you could just use one of the crap ones you picked up from a monster.
@OP: If someone asks you to drop something (usually valuable) they'll be trying to scam you. Don't do it unless you really really know what you're doing.

When inventory is full, to rearrange and salvage items. No other uses. For everything else, the trash can and the trade interface will do.

We are dealing with a paragon working up DP.
You don't manage that by playing bad.
The only way to achieve that is by being INSANELY unlucky.
And if a person is THAT unlucky - do you think they had the luck of having a staff drop?
Exactly!

At the end of an Underworld speed clear, I sometimes have to drop stuff to make room for salvaging so I can claim the ectos, lockpicks and scrolls from the chest.
It's usually a blue Inscribed Staff or something but, lo and behold, someone will be greedy enough to snatch it.

Stands to reason. 100 gold + 100 gold, ... equals Armbrace.

For the record:
I've made a few thousand gold in FoW by simply playing trashman for the group - everyone gets so many drops and not everybody comes with an empty inventory ... Of course, that's whites, and if anyone so much as says give it back, he gets it back

Thanks all, so even though the person who did drop their 'vs' (I'm presuming that's a voltaic spear - I'm so not 'high end') was incredibly stupid for doing so, I still think that's mean gameplay to take it and keep it. Imagine getting an item that, so I hear, is one of the most expensive and difficult ingame items and just dropping it on command, bizarre.
In the real world its still theft, in the game, well its just mean, a persons stupidity does not mean taking their things is no longer theft.
